J.R. was born in Washington State to a military family. He traveled extensively, living in eight American states, as well as Germany, and Thailand before the age of sixteen. He graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater before working as Director of Data Processing for RJK Corporation, Virginia's largest private investment company.

Mr. Getches moved to New York City where he was hired as a Senior Programmer/Analyst for Dow Jones developing their Foreign Currency and Precious Metals Trading Systems.

After eight years in New York, J.R. accepted an offer in Los Angeles to be Director of Strategic Development for the publicly traded Recovery Network helping to create television programming for recovering alcoholics and drug abusers seen in fourteen million American homes.

J.R. returned to the internet programming world as part of the Tickets.com launch team where he was again Senior Programmer.

While in Los Angeles, J.R. met Pamela Anderson and the two of them created "Celebrity Wakeup with Pamela Anderson". J.R. did all of the technical programming as well as overseeing the writing and recording of hundreds of funny wake up and birthday messages.

In 2004, J.R. moved back to the east coast to be closer to his family and became Webmaster of Motley Rice LLC, the world's largest plaintiff's law firm running all of their internet operations for five years.

Since then, he has been an internet consultant for many large Charleston companies including The Post & Courier, Charleston Mercury, People Matter, and Green Wizard.

J.R. Getches is a writer, performer, and producer of music. He has toured throughout America, Europe, Asia, and Russia. He has recorded with The Poppies (CBS Records), Christine Lavine (Rounder Records), The Bette Williams Band (Euphoria Records), and The Patrick Dennis Band (Cargo Records).

J.R. wrote and recorded "Julie The Starfish and Other Lullabies" with Hope Harris selling more than ten thousand copies. This wonderful children's CD is available on iTunes and on Amazon.com. J.R. also did some of the guitar work on "All You Need Is Love", the most downloaded children's CD on Amazon.com in 1999 for Grammy award winning label Music For Little People.

J.R. is a huge fan of dance and wrote music for choreography performed by The Annabella Gonzalez Dance Theater and The American Reparatory Ballet. He is the Official Photographer of The Charleston City Ballet.

J.R. has written music for Film and TV including "The Push For Nuclear Power" on PBS, "The Rescue Vet" for Palmetto Coast Media, and "Radio News" for Sleeping Cats Productions in Memphis.

As a photographer, J.R. has been published in Inside Out Writers Magazine (an Elle Publication), Dance Magazine, and Burst Magazine in Greece. He has had dozens of concert photos published in The Charleston City Paper including shots of Taj Mahal, Robert Plant and Band of Joy, Joe Bonamassa, The Beach Boys, Tommy Emmanuel, Roger Daltrey, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and The Doobie Brothers.
